not just sticks but stickers!!

We always talk about how hard it is having to pierce our child's skin to test blood sugars multiple times a day, how we have to insert pump sites and cgm sensors under their skin, how brave they are to endure all this. What we never talk about is how this is actually the easy part. Getting those dang things off, now THAT is the hard part. Every couple days, we have to peel off the IV 3000 and unstick the pump infusion sites. Those suckers stick like crazy! I cringe thinking about those delicate little hairs getting pulled. This is the most painful part of the process. I usually use Unisolve to get them off....works great for the Dex sensor but makes the IV 3000 a globby mess and doesn't quite get under the Contact Detaches or the Inset 30s to dissolve the adhesive. So our whoas do not stop with sticking our child with lancets, needles, and cannulas but with removing these stickers too.

  2. I've noticed that when I use the IV Prep wipe to help the infusiom site STICK it also helps it to come off easier. I haven't used them in a while because of the huge recall.

  3. I have never tried unisolve..we slather on baby oil or jojoba oil and slowly peel off..it works pretty good!

  4. Yep, I hear ya! It tugs a bit...and Joe doesn't always like it. I should be better about baby-oiling those bad-boys.

  5. Hi, back! :) (Just out of curiosity, how many other Denises have you known in your life? You make three for me!)
Since Bean uses the OmniPod, unisolve works perfectly for us, though I do notice sometimes they get gunkier than others and it takes forever to get all the stuff off! Wouldn't be without it though...can't imagine trying to get it off just by pulling. Had to do it once with an alarming pod...the very first one so we had no idea what we were doing, much less about unisolve. Needless to say, there were screams heard for miles! :)

  6. Great info, we are switching to a pump soon and I had never even thought about it this way. Thanks :)

  7. We don't use anything to prep the skin.... So unisolve works well for us. But it is sticky!! In think Sweets hates taking OFF the site more than putting one on!!

  8. What a great point - it breaks my heart seeing Nate's skin pull when we take off the pod and dex. I usually try to do it after bath time so that it's nice and wet - it seems a bit easier that way. I hate the goo from Uni-Solve but we use it too!
